Authorities advocated the need to invest in strengthening the resilience of national infrastructures as a way to prevent greater damage in Extreme climatic eventslike the floods that hit Rio Grande do Sul.
The statements were made in the CNN Talks “COP30 – Climate Resilience: Regulation and Financing”. The event was held on Tuesday (8), in partnership with the infra agency.
Representing ANTT (National Land Transportation Agency)the agency’s director general, Guilherme Sampaio, pointed out that the theme needs to be treated as an immediate priority.
“It is urgent to discuss this theme not as something of the future, but of the past, since we should face this situation. With well -targeted tariff policies, we can promote a true transformation,” he said.
Miguel Setas, CEO of Motivatesalso defended a preventive and anticipatory approach by the public power and society.
“We have to work on the adaptation agenda. Civil society needs to adopt a preventive stance and invest before extreme climate events occur, to reduce and minimize the impacts of climate change,” he said.
To Vander Costa, president of CNT (National Transport Confederation)the private sector plays a central role in the adoption of resilient measures, due to the efficiency in contract management.
“The private sector is more agile and efficient in taking resilient attitudes, precisely for contractual management. He knows that preventing is cheaper than fixing,” he said.
The director of Antaq (National Waterway Transport Agency)Flávia Takamosphi, highlighted the need to create regulatory incentives for investments in green infrastructure.
“We have seen how to use regulatory methods to invest in adapting infrastructure. The whole world has seen this debate,” he said.
A COP30 (United Nations Conference on Climate Change) It will be held in November in Belém (PA).
Under the leadership of Brazilian diplomacy, the expectation is that COP boosts negotiations on climate financing, energy transition, preservation of the Amazon and compliance with the goals of the Paris Agreement.
