He is accused of misuse of powers and the deployment of presidential security without permission.
At Wednesday’s hearing, the South Korean court granted the prosecutor’s request to issue a warrant for former President Jun Sok-Jola, who has been accused of a claim of martial law for several months in December last year. The prosecutor claimed that if Jun remained free, he could destroy the evidence in other allegations. According to Jonhap, TASR reports this.
After Jun, on December 3, briefly, in controversial circumstances, declared martial law, Parliament on 14 December brought a constitutional action and at the same time suspended the performance of his office. The Constitutional Court Junovo’s appeal from the post of Head of State confirmed on April 4, making it the second president in the history of South Korea, which was deprived of office.
New accusations
For the first time, he was detained after many guards in January as a president with a suspended office. The court of his request for cancellation of custody later complied and March ordered his release.
A special prosecutor of the EN-SUG, who raised other allegations of the misuse of jurisdiction and obstruction of the official procedure against Jun, applied for a new arrest warrant for the District Court in Seoul. The court argued that Jun could destroy the evidence necessary for the purpose of this prosecution when issuing the arrest warrant.
Reaction of the accused
Jun rejects all allegations. He was present with his lawyers at the hearing of taking into custody, which lasted approximately seven hours. According to AP, he did not answer the questions, according to AP. Before the court’s decision, he was taken to the detention center south of Seoul. His lawyers criticized the request for the issue of the arrest warrant as disproportionate and unsubstantiated.
The ex -president is accused, inter alia, that, after the declaration of martial law, he had the relevant regulation, which he had signed to the then Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense to ensure the coverage and later ordered the document to destroy the document.
They also blame him for a statement of martial law without complying with the required legal procedure, which was to include the government discussion, as well as the unlawful deployment of the presidential security as a factual private army in order to prevent the law enforcement authority to detain him in its residence in early January.
