The climate change has almost tripled the number of deaths associated with heat in large European cities during the wave of extreme heat between June 23 and 2 July. This stems from the latest study of researchers from the United Kingdom, Denmark, the Netherlands and Switzerland based on data from 12 major European cities. According to DPA and Reuters reports, TASR informs about it.

Scientists estimate that About 2,300 people died of heat -related causes over ten days. Almost two -thirds of the victims (1500) were identified by researchers as a result of climate change.

Temperatures in many European cities often reached more than 40 degrees Celsius in a given period. As a result of global warming, which, according to the study, added one to four degrees Celsius to the maximum temperature each day, the number of deaths, according to scientists, was up to 800 people.

Researchers recall that similar heat waves are particularly difficult for people with various diseases or at retirement age. According to the scientists’ group estimates, up to 88 percent of the assumed victims belonged to the age group over 65 years.
