The traditional strawberry snack with cream, symbol of the Wimbledon tournament, had its price readjusted for the first time in 15 years. The organizers announced that the portion, which previously cost £ 2.50 (R $ 18), will now be sold for £ 2.70 (R $ 20), an increase of 20 pence, equivalent to 8%.
The portion, served in a container similar to a lamen box, contains about nine strawberries, which means that each fruit costs approximately 30 pence.
Despite the readjustment, the treat is still a success among viewers. An attendant of the official store of the event told the newspaper The Telegraph that sales are high, with constant replacement of inventories throughout the day.

Historical tradition
Cream strawberries are one of the oldest and most beloved symbols in the Wimbledon tournament. Tradition dates back to the nineteenth century, when strawberries were a seasonal fruit consumed only during June and July, a period that coincides with the holding of the Grand Slam of Tennis.
The demand for the candy is impressive: about 140,000 portions are served with each edition of the tournament, which represents the consumption of approximately 28 tons of strawberries and 7,000 liters of cream.
Other options
In addition to strawberries, other products also had price increase.

The Stella Artois beer rose to £ 8.85 (R $ 65), while a fish sandwich began to cost £ 13.85 (R $ 102). For fans who want something more sophisticated, a bottle of champagne Lanson Le Rose Creation Brut is being sold for £ 100.90 ($ 747).
All England Club administrators, who organize the tournament, justified the increase as a modest measure to maintain the availability of the world famous at a reasonable price.
Since 2010, when the price has been maintained, the average food costs in the UK have increased by 40%.
