The scene is that you arrive at a restaurant, fair, cafeteria and come across various dishes with foreign names on the menu. Therefore, it is natural to associate that their origins are from other countries, right? Because we have several exceptions and they are Brazilian.
As much as these dishes look international, they were actually creations on Brazilian soil that adapted ingredients and cultural influences from other places. Check out some dishes that we confuse the origin to this day.
6 dishes that many believe to be foreigners, but were created in Brazil
1. Feijoada
It is a culinary creation of the enslaved Africans here and today gained improvements and also drank a little at the source of Portuguese cuisine. Thus, feijoada is considered a more “complete” creation by consumers. The explanation is that the Brazilian dish gained side dishes such as white rice, farofa, braised cauliflower, orange and black beans. Other countries have tried to create their versions, but nothing compares with the Brazilian taste.
2 Steak to Parmegiana
It has a flashy name that refers to the region of Parma, Italy, but the news is that the Brazilian dish had its roots in the city of São Paulo. Thus, the association of the name with Italian cuisine is due to Parma is the place where Parmesan cheese is produced, one of the main ingredients of the dish.
3. Beirut sandwich
The name may seem like a Lebanese creation or something in this regard, but know that the sandwich is of Brazilian origin even, more specifically from São Paulo. Thus, cooking literature brings that a Lebanese immigrant, owner of a cafeteria, would have invented the sandwich using Syrian bread instead of traditional bread. Thus the name “Beirut” was a tribute to the capital of Lebanon, where he was born.
4. Dutch cake
“Ah, if you have that name is because it comes straight from“, you would think. But the answer is no, it is from Brazil itself.
Silvia Maria created the Dutch pie in 1990, after season in England and welcoming coexistence with a Dutch family who inspired her.
The recipe came up in his coffee in Campinas, and was named as a spontaneous tribute to gratitude for the help he received abroad. The pie uses butter, sugar, eggs, sour cream, milk, choke -powered Nescau and Maria cookie.
5. Stroganoff with rice and potato chips
Culinary literature narrates that the root creation of the dish came from Russia, but it passed away from the cream, loose rice and the straw potato. Thus, it was in Brazil that it earned it its “official and hot” version, with all the increments and style of sauce that we traditionally know today.
6. Barbecue
The name seems like a creation of another continent, but its roots are fixed in Brazil, more specifically in the Pampas region, in South America. Thus, the practice was developed in gaucho culture, with cattle raising and the tradition of baking cuts of meat on fire. This was due to the drovers traveling around the region and adopted the habit as a basic meal, roasting the pieces they liked most about ground fire.
