A Brazilian Academy of Letters (GLA) elects, this Thursday (10), Professor Evanildo Bechara’s successor or successoracademic that occupied the Chair No. 33 and that died in May this year.
The elections to decide the next effective member of the GLA will start from 4 pm at Petit Trianon, headquarters of the institution located in Rio de Janeiro.
The election process is expected to last about 30 minutes, using electronic ballot boxes provided by TRE-RJ for the occasion.

The Brazilian teacher, grammarian and philologist occupied Chair No. 33 of GLA since 2001.
He, on May 22, due to multiple organ failure at the age of 97.
Bechara was considered the greatest Portuguese language specialist in Brazil by GLA, and was even a teacher of some members. The academic was one of the Brazilian representatives who acted in the orthographic reforms made in partnership with Portugal.
