PL-SP parliamentary states that 50% rate announced by Trump is a political message to the Brazilian left and a gesture of support for former President Bolsonaro
The federal deputy (PL-SP) commented on Wednesday (9) the letter sent by the president of the president, in which the American announces a 50% tariff over all Brazilian products exported to the US from August 1.
For the conservative parliamentarian, the measure goes beyond the economy: it represents a firm political position in the face of the current Brazilian government. “Donald Trump gave the message that many of us conservative Brazilians would like to personally give Lula: enough to play the smart with the United States!” Wrote the deputy.
Tadeu classified the taxation as a clear response to the approach to left-wing regimes and the Federal Government’s performance on sensitive topics, such as the relationship with the São Paulo forum and the conduct of lawsuits against the former president. “Lula may even try to pose from a global statesman, but Trump doesn’t bow to a communist disguised as a Democrat,” said the parliamentarian.
Support to Bolsonaro and criticism of the Lula administration
In the statement, Colonel Tadeu also highlighted Trump’s support to former President Bolsonaro as a symbolic gesture. For him, this shows that “true world leaders know who defends freedom, Christian values and national sovereignty.” The deputy ended his statement with a direct criticism of the current president: “Lula joked with fire – and Trump is showing that with him he does not have to pass cloth to the government friend of the Forum of Sao Paulo.”
Understand the context of the crisis
In the letter sent on Wednesday, Trump justified the imposition of the fare as a response to alleged attacks on the freedom of expression of American companies in Brazil and how former President Bolsonaro has been treated by the Brazilian judiciary. He classified the court case against the ally as a “witch hunt” and pointed to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) as responsible for “secret and illegal” decisions that would violate fundamental rights of US citizens.
The measure caused immediate reactions from the Brazilian government, parliamentarians and STF ministers, such as Flávio Dino, who said the Court “protects national sovereignty seriously.” The Planalto evaluates possible diplomatic and commercial responses, including the activation of the reciprocity law, which authorizes measures against countries that impose unilateral barriers to Brazil.
