Director General of the University Hospital – Hospital of Sts. Michael (UN -NSM) in Bratislava begs for patience, understanding and confidence in connection with the situation within the gastroenterology center. He declared that the hospital immediately initiated a series of steps to investigate the cause of non -standard reactions in patients after colonoscopic examination.
If the circumstances do so, the hospital management wants to inform about all known and confirmed facts over the next few days. This stems from an open letter sent by the director TASR.
“In recent days, there has been an emergency situation in our hospital that hit us all deeply. After a colonoscopic examination, a total of seven patients had non -standard reactions. We had to hospitalize five in our hospital. It is something that we have not encountered in the Slovak Republic and the neighboring countries. This serious event is concerned not only for patients and their loved ones, but also our whole medical team, ”said the director.
He declared that from the first moment they did everything they did to stabilize patients immediately and provide them with the best health care. He also assured that those who remained hospitalized were in a stabilized state. At the same time, the hospital management has established internal commissions that verify in detail every step.
“From the course of the examinations themselves, through disinfectant processes to adherence to all internal standards and procedures. At the same time, we are actively communicating with the law enforcement authorities as well as with the Health Care Surveillance Authority to comprehensively check all the circumstances of these examinations”Said Kužel.
The aim of the hospital, in his words, is to provide the public with information that will be thorough and supported by facts. “If the circumstances of the internal investigation, communication with law enforcement authorities as well as with the Health Care Surveillance Authority will allow you, we would like to openly inform you at a press conference about all known and confirmed facts in the coming days,” the director said. At the same time, he asks for empathy and sensitivity on this topic.
UN-NSM in Bratislava reported last week that she had to preventively suspend the endoscopic program within the gastroenterology center. The reason is the occurrence of non -standard reactions in seven patients after the use of technology in colonoscopic examination last week. She has not yet found the cause of the problem.
The decision to suspend the endoscopic program was adopted by a specially established commission. At the same time, the hospital adopted strict security measures and launched a control audit. The case is also dealt with by the police and the Health Care Surveillance Authority.
