The decision of the US President, in offensive to defend (PL) refers “to the dark memory of US participation in”, as well as being one, the trade unions said on Thursday (10).
The text also calls for the cancellation of the mandate of (PL-SP).
Trump’s “tariff” note is signed by leaders of eight unions: CUT (Single Workers ‘Central), Força Sindical, UGT (General Union of Workers), CTB (Brazilian Workers Center), CSB (Brazilian Union Central), NCST (New Workers’ Union Center), Intersindical – Central of the Working and Public Class.
In the document, the centrals state that, in addition to remembering American action in the military dictatorship in Brazil, the measure would be a “hostile reaction” to decisions of the Supreme Court (STF).
“It is also a collusion with pockets, which insists on feeding polarizations and stimulating far-right groups to betray national interests,” they write.
Unions cite impacts that surcharge can have on economics and workers. “A 50% abrupt increase in rates on our exports – living in a country with which we have more than 200 years of business relations – directly threatens industry, agribusiness and various productive sectors, with real risk of mass layoffs, closing companies and aggravation of unemployment,” they argue.
“The measure also tends to cost the cost of production, pressing inflation and raising the cost of living. There is still the risk of exchange rate instability.”
They also advocate a “firm and haughty” response from the federal government, as well as praising the approval of the economic reciprocity law.
The centrals also ask for the cancellation of Eduardo Bolsonaro’s mandate and say that, “even sheltered abroad and receiving salaries paid by the Brazilian population, they acted as a true foreign agent by fostering sanctions against their own country.” “This configures a crime of Lesa Patria,” they continue.
“We trust that the government will know how to balance firmness and diplomacy to prevent the climb of a crisis caused by Donald Trump’s authoritarianism,” he adds.
