Lula summons emergency meeting to discuss Trump’s tariffs

After the president of the United States, for products imported from Brazil, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) called an emergency meeting with minister at Planalto Palace on Wednesday night (9). The new rate comes into force from August 1st.

In a letter to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Trump states that the new fare, which represents a significant increase over the 10% rate that the US imposed on Brazil in early April, was also motivated by the “very unfair trade relationship” with the country, saying that it has been “far from being reciprocal”.
