The presidents of the Chamber of Deputies (Republicans-PB), and Senate (Brazil-AP Union), said on Thursday (10.Jul.2025) that the reaction to the tariff of the President of the United States, Donald Trump (Republican), must be done with “Dialogue in the diplomatic and commercial fields”.

“The decision of the United States to impose new fees on strategic sectors of the Brazilian economy should be answered with dialogue in the diplomatic and commercial fields.
“The National Congress will closely follow the developments. With great responsibility, this parliament approved the law of economic reciprocity. A mechanism that gives conditions to our country, to our people, to protect our sovereignty.
“We will be ready to act with balance and firmness in defense of our economy, our productive sector and the protection of Brazilian jobs.”
When it starts to apply
The measure comes into force on August 1 and will be applied widely and automatically, regardless of the sector or type of goods.
In practice, this makes products of Brazil more expensive in the US market, and may reduce the competitiveness of Brazilian exporters.
The fare is additional to others already existing and was determined by the US government.

The law was passed by Congress in April after the so -called Liberation Day, when Trump announced on April 2 the unilateral imposition of tariffs on various countries of the world.
