Armenia and Azerbaijan completed negotiations in the United Arab Emirates without an agreement. Nevertheless, they stayed on the pursuit of bilateral dialogue and delimitation initiatives.

The next round of the negotiations of Armenia and Azerbaijan on the settlement of their disputes on Thursday in the United Arab Emirates ended without making progress towards signing a peace treaty, AFP reported, TASR writes.

Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed on the text of a comprehensive peace agreement in March, but Baku subsequently – before signing the document – there were many other requirements, including changes and supplements to the Institute of Armenian in order to abandon the territorial claims to the enclave Nagorno -Karab.

There is no mention of a hint of progress in the final statements on negotiations in Abu Dhabi, which were issued independently of each other.

Leaders agreed to continue negotiations

They state that the leaders “agreed to continue bilateral negotiations and measures to build trust between the two countries”. The statements also states that the meeting in Abu Dhabi has confirmed that bilateral negotiations are the most effective format to address all questions about the normalization process. At the same time, both parties expressed their determination to continue the dialogue focused on the results and delimitation of the common border.

AFP recalled that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed the hope that Baku and Jerevan would conclude a peace agreement as soon as possible.

Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pašinjan last met in May during the European Political Community summit in Albania, where their EU leaders urgently called for an accelerated conclusion of a peace agreement. Both countries led two wars against the controversial enclave of Nagorno -Karabas, which Azerbaijan conquered again in 2023. This lightning offensive of the Azerbaijan army resulted in exodus of more than 100,000 ethnic armenians living in Karabakh and has also affected the political situation in Armenia.
