Russia continues to expect a signal from Kiev and declares that it prefers a diplomatic conflict resolution – but it is still in the military offensive.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday that he did not think that peace negotiations on the war in Ukraine stopped. This is reported by TASR based on Reuters report.
After last week’s call with Putin, Trump publicly shows that he is disappointed by the Russian President’s approach. He stated that their conversation did not approach the ceasefire in Ukraine, with the proposal of which Kiev repeatedly agreed. Putin said in a call that Russia would not abandon its goals in Ukraine.
Trump’s reaction
“If you want to know the truth, Putin is pursuing a lot of somarin. All the time he is very nice, but it turns out that it has no meaning,” Trump said.
“No, I don’t think. You can’t say that,” Peskov said to whether the process seems to be stopped just for Trump’s speech. “Russia is waiting for a signal from Kiev regarding whether or not it wants to join the third round of negotiations that started in May in Istanbul,” he continued.
Kremlin’s attitude
“We have repeatedly said that we prefer to achieve our goals by peaceful political and diplomatic ways, but until it does not, a special military operation continues and the reality on the battlefield is changing every day,” Peskov added. The phrase “Special Military Operation” is officially name for war in Ukraine in Russia.
Donald Trump, who, in his own words, wants to enroll in history as a peacemaker, has repeatedly called for the end of bloodshed in Ukraine. Despite his pressure, Russia continues its offensive.
