UN Warns to Israel’s plan for the expulsion of Palestinians: ‘Concentration Field’

The executive director of the United Nations Palestinian Refugee Assistance Agency (Unrwa), Raquel Martí, warned on Thursday (10) that the plans for expulsion of the Palestinian population “to a concentration camp” generate a “deep alarm”. Martí, who met this Thursday in the city of Oviedo, Spain, with regional authorities of Asturias (region where Oviedo is located), stressed the need to maintain political support to the UN agency it represents. Faced with Israel’s plan to transfer the entire population to a “humanitarian city” in Rafah -in the words of the Israeli Defense Minister – -UNRWA’s executive director considered that the Israeli government is preparing the Palestinian population for its “expulsion to a concentration camp”.

Earlier this week, Israeli Minister announced at a news conference, released by local media outlets, who had ordered the Israeli Defense Forces (FDI) to prepare a plan to establish a new “humanitarian city” in Rafah, with the aim of focusing on the entire population of the Gaza Strip. Once there, the minister explained, the Palestinians will be able to choose to “voluntarily emigrate” to other countries, as the US President had already suggested earlier this year. Martí pointed out that all the rules, universal principles and ethical values ​​that, since World War II, were considered unabalable “are being annihilated.”

In this sense, he warned that “if not contained,” there is a risk that this “replies elsewhere in the world.” “What Israel is doing in Gaza is crossing all the red lines,” he added, considering that what is happening in the Palestinian enclave “has no precedents in modern history.” Martí also reported that Unrwa “has been criminalized” by Israel to prevent the agency from working in Palestine, and has reinforced the importance of continuing to support multilateralism, which “is in crisis.”
