Britain and France undertake to coordinate nuclear deterrent threats to Europe. The leaders of the countries will sign a joint agreement at the end of Macron’s visit to the United Kingdom.

The United Kingdom and France will respond together to any “extreme threat” to Europe with its deterrent nuclear resources, the British Ministry of Defense and the Office of the French President said on Wednesday. This commitment will be confirmed by the countries in a joint Thursday statement signed by French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. According to the AFP report, TASR reports this.

The statement states that the deterrent of France and Britain’s nuclear resources remain under their national control, “but may be coordinated”. According to them, “there is no extreme threat to Europe that would not cause the reaction of both countries”.

The agreement will be signed by Britain and France leaders at the end of Macron’s three -day visit to the United Kingdom. During it, Macron and Starmer discussed security, defense or illegal immigration. Even earlier, the French president highlighted the mutual relations between London and Paris on Wednesday.

Macron’s visit will be completed by the British-French summit with the participation of the leaders of both countries and the respective ministers.
