Why is trade between Brazil and the United States so important? Many people have asked this question in recent months, since Donald Trump has once again occupied the White House, announcing the intention to change the conditions of foreign trade, raising import rates. And even more after the announcement yesterday of Brazilian exports.
The truth is that although the US has been lost for some time for China for the first destination position for the shipments of Brazilian goods and services, the country still appears as the main buyer of national industrialized goods.
Throughout last year, Brazilian exports to the US added US $ 40.3 billion, growing 9.3% compared to 2023 – as comparison, in the same period, sales to China and Mercosur fell 9.5% and 14.1%, respectively. Of this total, industrial products represented 78.3% (US $ 31.6 billion).

From January to June 2025 exports to the United States grew 4.4% over the same period last year, and reached US $ 20.02 billion, according to data from. Gross oil, non -roasted coffee, aircraft and parts, iron or steel semi -mackery and beef are the largest highlights between products.
Imports grew by 11.5% and totaled US $ 21.70 billion. Thus, during this period, the trade balance for the governor country by Donald Trump presented a deficit of $ 1.67 billion.
The importance of business relationship goes beyond general numbers. A recent study by AMcham, made in celebration of 200 years of trade between the two countries (completed in 2024), pointed out that the US is the main destination for high -tech Brazilian products, such as aircraft, medicines and some machines, representing, on average, 47.7% of the total sold by Brazil in this segment between 2001 and 2023.

The same study pointed out that another 9,000 Brazilian companies export to the United States. In total number of exporting companies, the United States, as an individually country, are the first place in Secex ranking since 2002, ie 22 consecutive years. When the comparison is made with blocks, the United States are only behind Mercosur, a region for which Brazil has established free trade.
According to AMcham, companies that export to the United States generate more jobs, have the highest remuneration, reach better gender parity and higher female remuneration – and more than 50% of them have women among partners.
