Bianca Zanela ran towards the edge of a lookout while the family paused for snack and eventually plummeted
A tragedy shook Serra Gaucha, in the death of 11 -year -old Bianca Zanela. The girl fell from a lookout in the canyon in Cambará do Sul. Bianca’s body was found lifeless about 10 hours after the accident, around 11 pm last Thursday (10), approximately 70 meters from the site of the fall. The rescue operation was complex, requiring the use of a thermal camera drone to locate the victim and rappelling techniques due to the difficulty of access to the site. Teams from the Gramado and Canela Platoons, in addition to the Porto Alegre Search and Rescue Battalion and the Aviation of the Military Brigade, participated in the operation. Climatic conditions prevented the use of helicopters, which could have streamlined the rescue.
The accident occurred around 1 pm, when Bianca, who was accompanied by her parents and two siblings, ran toward the brink of the lookout while the family paused for snack. The girl’s father tried to reach her, but could not avoid the fall. The place has no protection fences. According to the Fire Department, Bianca had autistic spectrum disorder. The family, born in Curitiba, Paraná, was staying in Cambará do Sul.
The Civil Police and the General Institute of Expertise assumed the investigation of the case, seeking to understand the circumstances that led to the fatal fall.
