The excitement of vacation is usually accompanied by inevitable tasks: check doors and windows, turn off lights, prepare the bags. However, there is a simple but frequently forgotten gesture that can prevent headaches on the return: turning off the appliances from the electric sheet.
The alert is made by the Good Housekeeping Institute experts, who point out five types of devices who, if left on vacation, may not only unnecessarily increase the energy invoice, but in certain cases, represent serious safety risks.
Porters may seem innocent (but they are not)
One of the main culprits for domestic incidents during prolonged absences is battery chargers. These devices, if kept linked to the form for extensive periods, are at risk of overheating, especially if they are damaged.
According to the cited experts, it is ideal to always remove the charger from the outlet when the device is completely charged, thus ensuring safety and a considerable reduction in unnecessary energy consumption.
Forgotten heaters can cost expensive
Another critical appliance is the heaters. These devices, due to their high power and increased risk of overheating, can easily cause a fire, especially if they are linked without supervision for long periods.
As such, even if it seems off, a heater must always be disconnected from the form when it is not being used, especially if it is spending several days away from home.
Bench equipment: small but dangerous
Toasts, electric ovens or kettles are useful, but can become dangerous if an sudden peak of energy or an unexpected electrical failure occurs. According to the experts, these devices, despite their small size, are among the most likely to damage in situations of electrical instability.
The recommendation is simple: before leaving for vacation, remove these devices from the sockets. Money is saved and security increases.
Entertainment in stand-by: hidden waste
Few are aware of the impact that entertainment devices have total electricity consumption when they are in waiting mode. Televisions, game consoles or sound systems can represent between 5% and 10% of total domestic energy consumption when linked to the current, even without use.
For this reason, if it will be away from home, turn off these equipment from the outlet and may have a pleasant surprise when you return and open the next light account.
Watch out for hair appliances
Another group of appliances that is often forgotten is the handsets intended for hair: dryers, boards and modelers. These equipment, when they have damaged cables or wear, can cause fires by short circuit or overheating.
It is therefore essential to ensure that these devices are disconnected from the form before leaving, especially in longer absences.
Are you going to travel? Attention to the new cabin size size
However, if the plan is to travel by plane, it is also necessary to pay attention to the recent change in the rules of hand luggage, announced by the Airlines for Europe (A4E) association. According to the Deco Proteste Consumer Protection Organization, the member airlines of this association, including TAP, Lufthansa, Air France, KLM and Easyjet, agreed to standardize the size of the free “personal item” allowed on board to 40 × 30 × 15 cm.
It clarifies that this change is expected to come into force by the end of summer this year, although some airlines may continue to allow slightly larger personal items.
A matter of comfort (and wallet)
According to the same source, this standardization aims to facilitate the passenger experience, ensuring greater clarity about what can be transported free in the cabin. Therefore, it is important to be aware of new measures to avoid additional fees or complications on boarding.
Both in the case of appliances and air transportation, small pre-viageal precautions can avoid major disagreements when returning home. After all, quiet holidays start well before leaving the door.
