Former President of Argentina Alberto Fernández faces charges of corruption during his reign. The judge ordered a freezing of $ 10 million out of his property.

The Argentine judge decided on Thursday that former President of Argentina Alberto Fernández will be brought to justice for alleged corruption related to the insurance contracts concluded by government resorts during his mandate in 2019 to 2023.

Ex -president Fernández (66) will be prosecuted for “negotiations incompatible with the performance of public office,” it results from the decision of the judge published by the local media. The information was also confirmed by the advocate of the former head of state Mariana Barbittová.

Allegations of corruption

Fernández is accused of fraud on the fact that his government used intermediaries – of which at least one had alleged ties to his office – to conclude insurance contracts that could be negotiated directly. The main intermediary was reportedly the husband of the ex -president’s personal secretary.

The corruption case concerns insurance contracts concluded with Nacion Seguros, the Banco Nacion State Bank Insurance Division, which Fernández has selected for the insurance of government departments against various types of risks.

Freezing of property

The judge also ordered the freezing of approximately $ 10 million from Fernández’s property.

AFP explains that the accusations of corruption have occurred when the court ordered a review of the Fernández secretary’s telephone during the investigation of the allegations of violence, which was raised by his former partner Fabiola Yánez against the former President. She accused him of beating her during their relationship last year. At present, Fernández faces a separate trial for allegations of domestic violence.
