The mayor of Rio Branco, Tião Bocalom, decreed a situation of emergency in the municipality due to the worsening of the epidemiological scenario of viral respiratory diseases.

Until the 21st Epidemiological Week of 2025, more than 18,000 calls were recorded by respiratory diseases, plus 499 hospitalizations for severe acute respiratory syndrome (SRAG), 42.1% of them in children under two years and 18% in elderly aged 60 or older.
The document highlights the detection of the simultaneous circulation of multiple respiratory viruses, including rhinoviruses, respiratory sintendic virus (VSR), influenza A and B, adenoviruses and SARS-COV-2, with a positivity rate of 51.3% in the analyzed samples. It also points out the occurrence of 29 deaths per Srag, of which 6 were confirmed by Covid-19 and the other associated with different respiratory viruses or with unspecified causes, with predominance in people with comorbidities and elderly.
“It is declared a situation of emergency in public health in the municipality of Rio Branco, due to the worsening of the epidemiological scenario related to the high circulation of respiratory viruses, with increased cases of flu syndrome, acute respiratory syndrome and associated deaths,” says the decree.

Given the scenario, all competent municipal agencies are authorized to perform the necessary measures to ensure the protection of the population’s health, including: expansion of the opening hours of health units; Recruitment of personnel on an emergency basis; Emergency acquisition of inputs and equipment indispensable to confront the crisis; establishment of partnerships with state and federal entities to ensure technical, financial and operational support; and adoption of prevention measures and mitigation of public health -related environmental disasters.
The same decree provides for the authorization for direct hiring, without bidding, for the acquisition of goods and services strictly necessary to address the emergency situation, based on Article 72 of Federal Law No. 14,133, of April 1, 2021, and Municipal Decree No. 400, 2023.
“The Municipal Planning Secretariat and the Municipal Finance Secretariat is determined to adopt the necessary measures for the opening of supplementary credit and the viability of financial availability, in order to comply with the emergency situation dealt with in this Decree, observing the limits provided for in the annual budget law and the Fiscal Responsibility Law.”adds the document.
“The Municipality will adopt other containment measures necessary to stop the transmission of coronavirus, as well as to review, at any time, the measures provided for in this Decree, according to the epidemiological situation of the municipality and the Ministry of Health’s guidelines and recommendations, as well as state and local health entities, with the objective of protecting the community.”concludes.
The term of the decree is 180 (one hundred and eighty) days.
