The 11-year-old girl who fell from a height of about 70 meters in the Fortaleza Canyon, in Serra Geral National Park, in Cambará do Sul (RS), this Thursday (10/7), was found lifeless by the firefighters, after more than 10 hours of the event.
The child fell around 1 pm and the death information was confirmed by the Rio Grande do Sul Military Fire Department around 11 pm on Thursday. The rescue work was started at 10 pm, using rappelling technique.

The point where the child was found is difficult to reach, which required technical care in the displacement of the teams. The victim’s identity has not yet been disclosed. In a statement, the Fire Department states that the teams are working to finalize the rescue work on site to start the Civil Police and General Institute of Expertise.
About the accident
The girl, diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), was on a walk with her parents on the lookout trail. The moment they would take a break for the snack, she would have ran out and fell into the canyon.
The location of the body was done at 5:37 pm by drone with thermal camera. The rescue team had to pierce rocks to fix the rappelling equipment.
The scene of the accident is located inside the Serra Geral National Park, and is about 7.5 kilometers long, 2,000 meters wide and more than 1,000 meters in altitude compared to sea level. Its huge stone walls, which resemble walls, explain the name “Fortaleza”.
The rugged nature of the region requires extra attention, especially at points such as the lookout, where there is no continuous physical protection along the edge.
