“Flying to these places is horrible”: former hostel reveals the worst tourist destinations where he flew (and are already here 'next to')

Traveling by plane may be a pleasant experience, but it doesn’t always run quietly. Some popular destinations have been negatively standing out due to onboard behavior. Who states it is a former onboard hostel who shared reports of disturbing situations experienced during the flights.

Onboard reports

Kristina Galvydyte, a former British airline, recently revealed several negative experiences accumulated over time. Shared episodes are shouting situations, suspicious consumption of illicit substances in the plane’s bathrooms, insults, overdoses and vomiting on board.

These reports, obtained by direct observation or share of colleagues, reveal a less known side of air travel, where the behavior of some passengers becomes a challenge for the teams that ensure safety and comfort during the flight.

Destinations with the highest registration of incidents

According to the Daily Express, there are tourist places that stand out for the frequency with which these occurrences occur. The former hostel referred to Ibiza and the Canary Islands, especially Tenerife. These routes are pointed out as the most difficult to operate.

Quoted by the same source, this former on-board hostel stated that “flying to these places is horrible” due to the generated environment, often associated with the uncontrolled behavior of some passengers. The popularity of these destinations contributes to the increase in the number of flights and, thus, the likelihood of unwanted occurrences.

Numbers that help understand the phenomenon

Last year it was recorded that one in five summer tourists in Ibiza came from the United Kingdom. In all, there were 833,259 British visitors until September 30. The Canary Islands also received a significant number of tourists from this country, representing 40% of all international arrivals, totaling 6.3 million visitors.

Excesses that force measures

The accumulation of troubled behaviors led airlines to adopt firmer measures. In 2023, a flight between Manchester and Ibiza had to be diverted after a passenger consumed a bottle of vodka, assaulted elements of the crew and spit on other passengers, as referred to in the same source.

In response, the carrier involved, Ryanair, announced measures to contain this type of behaviors. Executive President Michael O’Leary proposed to limit the number of alcoholic beverages permitted per passenger to two.

Reinforcement in penalties and new rules

In addition to limitation on alcohol consumption, Ryanair has announced the application of fines to passengers who have to be removed from flights due to behavior. The fines start at 500 pounds, about € 580, and the company undertakes to resort to the courts to recover any damage.

“It is not easy to identify who is drunk,” said the company’s president, quoted by the same source. “As long as they can walk, they board. Then, when the plane takes off, it is when the problems start,” he explained.

Local legislation reinforces control

Earlier this year, a new law was released on the Balear Islands, which covers places such as Majorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Forelyra. This legislation aims to combat the noise and disturbances caused by parties in tourist housing and fine those who do not comply with local rules.

A growing challenge for the sector

The increase of tourists in popular destinations raises new challenges for the aviation sector. On board behavior management has become a priority, both to protect the integrity of the crew and to ensure the tranquility of the other passengers.

According to, airlines now seek to implement preventive and deterrent measures to lock such incidents. At the same time, local authorities try to reinforce legislation to reduce tourists excesses.

The balance between tourism and responsibility

As the number of tourists continues to grow, especially in the highest movement, the need for more responsible behavior by those traveling is reinforced. Living on board and respect for others are fundamental to ensure the safety and well-being of all.

The measures taken by both airlines and local authorities are a reflection of the importance this theme has gained in recent years. It is about protecting not only tourist destinations but also the experience of the traveling.
