An 18 -year -old Francoal, whose traces were lost in mid -June while crossing Iran by bike, “arrested for crime,” Foreign Minister Abbas Arazzi said today in the French newspaper Le Monde.
“He was arrested for committing a crime and formally informed the French Embassy about his situation,” the head of Iranian diplomacy said. Iran’s Foreign Minister did not clarify the nature of the crime committed by 18 -year -old Lenar Moderlos.
The French Foreign Ministry announced that it is “in contact with the Iranian authorities” on the case, without any further details. The French News Agency (AFP) contacted the German Foreign Ministry, which was enough to declare that he had been informed of the incident.
Two other French citizens are held in Iran prisons. This is a 40 -year -old literary professor Cecil Coler and her 72 -year -old partner, Jacques Paris, who were arrested on May 7, 2022 and are accused of espionage in favor of Israel.
The arrest of 18 -year -old Lenar Moderlo is expected to cause further tension in Paris’s relations with Tehran, as the French government was exerting strong pressure to ensure the release of Cecil Coler and Jacques Paris, who are faced with the death penalty.
France and other European countries, whose nationals are held in Iran, accuse Tehran of engaging in “hostage diplomacy” in particular to influence talks on the Iranian nuclear program and to secure sanctions.
