Trump announced on Wednesday (9) that he will apply a 50% rate on products imported from Brazil. The new rate comes into force from August 1st.
In an announcement, the American states that the collection is necessary for the stance of the Supreme Court (STF) to former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
Trump also pointed out that the trade relationship between the parties is “very unfair”, marked by imbalances generated by “tariff and non-tax policies and the commercial barriers of Brazil”, and that the US should move away from longstanding business relationship.
Later, Lula published a response to Trump on social networks and said that the tariffs would be answered “in the light of the Brazilian law of economic reciprocity”.
