The Liberal Party (PL), acronym of former President Jair Bolsonaro, responded on Friday (11) to the campaign launched by the federal government in defense of national sovereignty. For the subtitle, the responsibility for Brazilian Products falls on President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT).
“Easy to put the public machine to speak its own language, but impossible to undo what has already been done. Lula sentenced the country to chaos in politics and the market,” the party said in social networks. The publication accuses the petista of “pulling Brazil down” and trying to transfer the blame for the crisis.
The statement takes place amid the intense battle of narratives waged on social networks since US President Donald Trump announced the surcharge against Brazil on Wednesday (9). On the one hand, the government and the PT invest in communication pieces that associate the measure with the performance of Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) in the US and the alleged submission of the Brazilian right with Trump’s interests.

On Wednesday, the PT published an animation with two characters: a dress of red (traditional party color) and another with the Brazilian team shirt, a recurring symbol of the opposition. In the video, the two discuss Trump’s decision and its impacts on Brazil.
In parallel, the federal government began to promote pieces with the slogan “Brazil with S sovereignty”. In one of the images, the phrase circulates: “Lula wants to tax the super rich; Bolsonaro wants to tax Brazil.”
Since the announcement of the surcharge, Planalto has adopted a discourse of defense of national sovereignty and liability of the Bolsonaro family, especially the licensed deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, who is in the US and is investigated by the STF on suspicion of international interference against Brazilian institutions.

Opposition tries to protect Bolsonaro
The PL seeks to shield itself from the association between the “tariff” and former president Jair Bolsonaro, pointing out that the current government would be responsible for wearing relations with the US. The acronym accuses the Lula government of provoking the diplomatic isolation of Brazil and to prioritize ideological alignments, such as the rapprochement with BRICS countries.

The dispute takes place in the midst of an institutional escalation: while Lula prepares a national statement to reinforce his position, the former president’s allies evaluate a possible direct dialogue with Trump, which includes even the proposal-already discarded by the STF-.
