On the morning of Friday (11), a rabet that was traveling between Cruzeiro do Sul and Porto Walter, in the Juruá Valley, suffered an accident while colliding with a submerged trunk on the Juruá River. The impact caused a passenger’s leg injuries, but no other person was injured.
After the collision, the passengers themselves provided first aid to the injured man/Photo: Reproduction
According to reports of occupants of the vessel, the trunk was not identified in time by the pilot due to low visibility under the water. After the collision, the passengers themselves provided first aid to the injured man, who was stabilized and is doing well.
The incident occurs at a time when the river level begins to lower due to drought, a common phenomenon this time of year. With the reduction in the volume of water, trunks, branches and other obstacles attached to the riverbed become more exposed, increasing the risk of accidents with small and medium -sized vessels.
The number of visible obstacles is expected to increase in the coming weeks, requiring more expertise from pilots who depend daily on the river as the main road.
