During intensive Russian attacks on Kiev, the roof and garage of the nunciature were damaged. Drone attacks also threatened the Vatican’s diplomatic mission.

Night Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital Kiev also damaged the building of the Vatican nunciature. Referring to her statement, Reuters informed it. The Apostolic Nuncius Archbishop Visvaldas Kulbokas said that the roof and garage of the nunciature is damaged, TASR writes.

Russia has intensified the attacks on neighboring Ukraine in recent days. More than 700 drones sent against it on Wednesday, approximately 400 on Thursday and 18 missiles fired. Two people died in Kiev as a result of a night attack and another 26 suffered injuries. People from the Ukrainian metropolis reported explosions throughout the night.

“During the next attack on the city of Kiev … the apostolic nunciature has seen damage on its main building as well as on the service areas,” the nunciature statement said.

Drones around the building were also circling at night

Kulbokas told Vatican News that he witnessed how drones were circling around the nunciature area and heard several explosions during the night.

“We have collected about ten relatively large fragments and I think it was a drone rather than a rocket. Fortunately, none of us happened. But it is, of course, strange to experience explosions in close proximity,” Diplomat added.

The Vatican maintains official diplomatic relations with approximately 180 countries. According to Reuters, his ambassadors, called Nuncians, are known to remain in their positions during armed conflicts and rarely evacuate from their place of their mission.
