Much of what is believed about schizophrenia is different from reality. This can be considered one of the most complex mental disorders and will be the theme of “CNN Vital Signs – Dr. Kalil Interview” this Saturday, July 12. To deepen the subject, Roberto Kalil receives psychiatrists Rodrigo Bressan, a free teacher at the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp), and José Gallucci Neto, the Institute of Psychiatry, Hospital das Clínicas, University of São Paulo School of Medicine (HC-FMUSP).
Among the topics covered are the symptoms of this picture, which include delusions, which often include a paranoia of persecution, and hearing hallucinations, listening to voices that are not there at that time. In general, these two symptoms are interconnected, with the patient listening to voices that seem to arm something against him, or warn him of some trap.
Experts will also address treatment, made mainly with the use of antipsychotics. However, it also involves the understanding that medication should be taken continuously, even when symptoms cease to appear.
Another important point of the chat will be The main challenges faced by those who live with the disease and their caregivers, as well as address the prejudice and stigma that still surround schizophrenia and recent advances in psychiatry that bring hope to patients and their families.
The “CNN Vital Signs – Dr. Kalil Interview” airs on Saturday, July 12, at 7:30 pm, at CNN Brazil.
