The president (PT) again criticized the former president () for the imposition of 50% tariff to Brazilian products announced by the president of the United States, Donald Trump.
“The former president of the Republic should take responsibility because he is agreeing with Trump’s taxation to Brazil. In fact, it was his son who went there to make the head of Trump,” Lula said in an interview with Record.
In the letter in which he talked about the surcharge, the US president cited the lawsuits that are being processed in Brazilian courts against Bolsonaro, criticized the Brazilian judiciary and said the former mendwoman is being persecuted.
In the interview, which had excerpts released on Thursday, Lula cited the episode of invasion of the Capitol, at the headquarters of the US Congress, stating that if it had happened in Brazil, Trump was being sued and could be arrested.
“They have to respect our judiciary as I respect theirs. If what Trump did in the capitol had happened here, he would be sued as Bolsonaro and could even be arrested. Here, the judiciary is autonomous, especially the STF,” he said.
Lula classified, in the same interview, as disrespectful the attitude of the president of, to increase the surcharge imposed on Brazilian products to 50%.
“What you can’t do is receive a letter that is not true it is with regard to the commercial issue. First, in the question of Brazil’s sovereignty, we want it to respect Brazil. Second, in the question of justice, he has to respect Brazilian justice as I respect the American,” he said.
Bolsonaro is a defendant in a lawsuit in the Federal Supreme Court for leading a plot that tried to scan at the end of 2022 after he loses his elections. The former president is ineligible at least until 2030 after conviction by the TSE for attacks and lies about the electoral system.

“The judicial process against those who planned the coup d’état is only of jurisdiction of Brazilian justice and, therefore, is not subject to any kind of interference or threat that makes the independence of national institutions,” the text says.
The president’s message still mentions topics such as social networks and press freedom, since, in Trump’s letter about tariffs, he cites decisions of the social networking platforms.
“In Brazil, freedom of expression is not confused with aggression or violent practices. To operate in our country, all national and foreign companies are subject to Brazilian law.”
