SAO PAULO (Reuters)-Brazil has so far gathered 40.46% of the corn cultivated area in the second crop, below 70.50% of the same period last year and 47.94% of the last five years, said the consultancy Fatherland Agribusiness on Friday.

Mato Grosso, the country’s main producer, had harvested 57.6%, while Paraná, according to the producer, had harvested 34.6% of the area.

“High productivities in all major Brazilian regions follow in the records,” said the consultancy in a statement, citing that the harvest of Mato Grosso has gained rhythm, while, in Paraná, it is slow.
