The warning is: Access to Ribeiro do Horse beach is not easy. You can arrive by boat or kayak, or through a small pedestrian rail. But the final prize justifies the effort.

The tar gives way to the dirt and the beginning of the rail is on the left side of those who come from Sesimbra. It is not difficult to find out why it has carreiros made by the human passage.

The name of this wild and (almost) secret sand is due to a rocky afloration similar to the neck of a horse and the ribeiro, a line of water that descends the slope and flows on the beach. For those arriving by sea, the perspective of the beach is a memorable beauty.

Mijona, caves and dives

Several companies, from the Sesimbra Nautical Station, regularly organize tours, visiting caves and discovery of other secret beaches on the coast, between Sesimbra and Cabo Espichel. On days to remember later it is possible to see dolphins.

The exits of the Transfer of the Esfadarte pier, in the port of Recreio de Sesimbra, start from 9h00, by marking, with the trip taking about 10 minutes. Luís Martins, owner of the company (Tel. 916993600) guarantees that “70% of the time the water is turquoise, as in French Polynesia” and explains that “on the spring side, despite having more pebbles, is more sheltered, while in the west part, the wind makes a dollar”.

Another approach is performed by (Tel. 910658555) which promotes two exits “to the discovery of the Sesimbra and Arrábida’s secret beaches and bays”.

Baleeira Beach

Towards Cape Espichel, which protects this coast from the Atlantic winds, small caves and several covers are discovered, such as Hell Beach, also known as Penedo Beach. It stands out, on the south side, for a protrusion of the cliff that at the end has a perfect bow. “Just over 25 meters from the coast is raised an islet. This beach is frequented by line fishermen. Access is made by sea or through a track in the cliff,” explains the (Tel. 966589269), a company that promotes walking and adventure experiences.

Already with access by rail, from heartburn, the beach of Baleeira is discovered. Transparent waters, white pebble beach, dark rock and vegetation “make us feel in full harmony with nature”, describes the . The beach is located between two large rock formations that protect it from the wind and the ripple, which made it centenary shelter port for various fishing activities. The small bay makes the whaling an election beach for diving and snorkel activities, announces Bolhastour.

This discovery trip ends in the degraded Fort of São Domingos da Baranha, built in the seventeenth century. Observe the great rock formation that gives the name of Chã dos Navegantes and the old structures to support the fishing frames that existed all over the coast.
