EU criticizes Trump’s tariff threat and says it’s ‘ready’ to continue working on an agreement

‘We are still ready to continue working toward an agreement’

The president of the European Commission, criticized the new 30% rates announced by the US President, on Saturday (12), but said the EU still wants to work in a trade agreement with. “Imposing 30% rates on EU exports would interrupt essential transatlantic supply chains over companies, consumers and patients on both sides of the Atlantic,” Von Der Leyen said in a statement.

“We remain ready to continue working towards an agreement before August 1. At the same time, we will take all the necessary measures to preserve the interests of the EU, including the adoption of proportional countermeasures, if necessary,” he added.
