The 73-year-old had made a prostate cancer in the public three years ago and now said in a talk show on Dutch television: “Cancer no longer bothers me.” When Van Gaal had made the illness public, he had just been the Dutch team boss, and since the 2022 World Cup he hadn’t worked in a leading position in football.
