Brazilians who plan to take the American visa in the coming months are expected to pay $ 250 due to a new tax, in addition to the charges already foreseen.
Called “Visa Integrity Fee”, the new rate is that of President Donald Trump, approved by the US Congress last week. It will focus on most foreigners who want to take the American visa.
There are two types of visas: that of immigrants (for foreigners who want to reside permanently in the United States) and non -immigrants (temporary travel, including tourism, temporary work, study and exchange). The new fee will be charged at the time of issuance to members of the second category.
It is not yet clear from when Visa Integrity Fee will be charged, but may be for the US fiscal year of 2026, which starts on October 1, 2025.
There is also no confirmation that the maximum fee will be $ 250, as the law determined that the internal security of the United States may define higher amount, via new legislation.
Trump’s law, “One Big Beautiful Bill”, also determines the payment of $ 24 for the visa registration form.
The new charges will be readjusted according to the official inflation indicator of each American fiscal year and do not nullify what was already required. That is, foreigners who want to take a visa from non -immigrant as tourists, students and others must pay US $ 185.00 as already expected.
Reimbursement
The visitor has the right to request the reimbursement of the amount if he meets specific rules during the US stay, such as not working without authorization and returning to the country of origin within the stipulated period, with tolerance of up to five days.
All amounts that are not reimbursed will be deposited in the background of the American Treasury.
