The beginning of July is a period when the strawberry season is coming to an end. Late varieties are still resulting in, and the prices of strawberries in the bazaars begin to rise. If in the home garden, know that the end of the fruiting season does not mean the end of work around the bushes. It is now that you have to prepare strawberries for the next year. Next year’s crops will depend on what you do. After the harvest of strawberries, you must first of all take care of the soil around the bushes. The growing weeds not only weaken strawberry cuttings, but can also spread diseases. In July, it is also necessary to ensure proper soil loosening between the rows of seedlings. This will facilitate the penetration of water and nutrients into the ground.
Important after fruiting is removing runners. These are the so -called mustache that appear when fruiting strawberries. After the end of the season, they can additionally burden and weaken the bush. Part of the runners can be used for rooting for next year. It is also very important to regularly remove rotten fruit and leaves that have fallen to the ground. They constitute the zeal of fungi habitat and can promote the development of many diseases. The end of the fruiting season is also time for reinforcing fertilizers. During this period, use compost from manure or other organic fertilizers that will strengthen the resistance of the bushes. However, remember not to use nitrogen fertilizers. This component can artificially extend the growing season, which means that the plant will not be able to prepare for the upcoming winter.
