At the same time, Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt called on citizens not to underestimate their own readiness for possible crises – from inventory detention to a conscious approach to the emergency scenario.
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt called on to strengthen civil protection systems in response to changing threats in the country. At the same time, he asked citizens to prepare for potential catastrophic scenarios, TASR reports on Saturday’s DPA report.
The country cannot concentrate only on “military security”, “civilian and population protection” is also needed, the Minister said on Saturday in the German city of Rostock, where the government commemorated the Day of Civil Protection.
Restoration of shelters
The Federal Government cooperates with 16 states to assess the availability of shelters across the country, specified Dobrindt. In his words, however, many of them have been canceled in the past decades, while Berlin is currently reviewing this decision. However, the head of the Interior Ministry stressed that citizens must also take responsibility for their readiness for emergencies, such as providing food or water supplies.
Interplay of civil and military defense
The head of the German Federal Office for Civil Protection and Assistance in disasters (BBK) Ralph Okler repeated the need to perceive civil and military defense as interconnected. “The protection of civil structures and resources we also provide military defense,” said distressing. He added that a durable company is the key to national readiness.
Approximately 40 sections of rescue services – from fire brigades to disaster authorities – participated in the public event in the port.
