After five years under the rights of the Band, the Formula 1 is back to Globo. The carioca station has signed a new contract with Liberty Media and will be responsible for broadcasting all 24 steps of the championship from the 2026 season. The agreement, initially valid for three years, guarantees exclusivity on Grupo Globo platforms. The information was initially published by the “Grand Prix” website.
Globo had ended its historic partnership with F1 in 2021 for financial reasons after more than four decades of continuous transmission. The decision involved impasses related to the affiliate advertising division and the requirement to maintain national coverage. At the time, broadcasters like SBT, ESPN and TV Cultura tried to make a joint project viable, but the Band ended up closing the contract.
The resumption happens a year after expected. The station had already planned to announce the return of the category during its commercial event in October 2024, but retreated after a last minute appeal made by Band, which called its legal department in an attempt to reverse the situation with Liberty Media. Despite this, Globo even displayed a car with the message “Is it?” During the event, indicating the interest in the return of the category.

Will SporTV also convey the F1?
With the new contract, SporTV will also broadcast all live races, regardless of the amount of tests that are shown on open TV. When the race passes at Globo, SporTV will make the transmission parallel with a different team – a model already used in football, but unprecedented in the coverage of F1 in Brazil. Globoplay will also be integrated to the coverage.
Gabriel Bortoleto’s presence on the grid, running through Sauber/Audi, is seen as a weight factor in the Globo decision to resume the transmission. The growth of interest in the category in recent years has also contributed to the assessment that F1 represents a relevant commercial opportunity.
Already the band says goodbye after five seasons marked by financial difficulties. In 2024, for example, the station faced restrictions during the Canada GP: without paying off a portion of the contract, it had its brand exposure barred by Liberty Media, which prohibited even the use of the official and canopy uniform with the logo.
Despite this, Formula 1 audience at Band grew up with the arrival of Bortoleto. By 2025, the average is 2.78 points – higher than 2.48 recorded in 2024, but still far from the numbers reached by Globo at the same time with other products.
What will be the narrators of F1 at Globo?
Luis Roberto and Everaldo Marques will be the official narrators of the new phase of F1 at Globo. The commentators have not yet been defined, but Sérgio Maurício and Reginaldo Leme, former Globo and today at Band, are not in the station’s plans.
Felipe Giaffone, also former Globo and Band, can return, as he maintained a good relationship with Grupo Globo even after his departure.
