According to both parties, negotiations mediated in Doha, Qatar, found themselves on the verge of failures for fundamental disagreements on military withdrawal and humanitarian aid.
On Saturday, the high -ranking political representative of Israel accused the Palestinian militant Hamas movement of sabotage of efforts to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the Hostage Release Agreement. According to the AFP report, TASR reports this.
“Hamas has refused a proposal (60-day) ceasefire, creates obstacles, refuses to make compromises, and worsens a psychological war to sabotage negotiations,” the representative said on the condition of maintaining anonymity in a statement received by AFP. He also added that Israel has already “showed a willingness to prove flexibility in negotiations”.
Negotiations on the verge of failure
According to Palestinian officials, indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas in Dohoh, Qatar, are on the verge of failures. The main question concerns the withdrawal of Israeli troops and the way of distribution of humanitarian aid in the Palestinian enclave.
Hamas representatives blame Israel of deliberate obstruction of progress. “They never thought of these conversations,” one of the negotiators said, according to BBC. “They used these rounds (negotiations) to get time and create a false image of progress,” he added.
The proposal contains an exchange
The US proposal includes a 60-day ceasefire during which Hamas would release ten living hostages and hand over half of the bodies of hostages in exchange for Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons. At the same time, Hamas demands some guarantees in connection with the withdrawal of Israeli troops, stopping fighting during negotiations and the restoration of humanitarian distribution under the auspices of the UN.
