Care of orchids

For many people, orchids are the most beautiful potted flowers. They are often given in the form of a gift and can be bought almost anywhere. Orchids are sold even in supermarkets such as Lidl or Biedronka. Naturally they come from Asia and this is where you can find thousands of their varieties. According to various sources, there are about 50 species of orchids in Poland. Poles loved orchids primarily for their beautiful flowers. They have been bred for thousands of years and were often attributed to great power. The Greeks identified orchids with fertility and love. These plants were also to attract happiness and abundance to houses. Orchid flowers are also valued because of their durability.

Most often they bloom in two dates a year. The first one falls in spring, and the next one in autumn. Large, long -term specimens can bloom even several times a year. The care of orchids is not complicated and focuses primarily on two aspects. Orchids need adequate drainage in a pot. The permeable layer at the bottom of the pot allows for proper water circulation and prevents root rot. A spread layer of peat or expanded clay is great for drainage of orchids.

The second factor is their irrigation. To make orchids sprinkled with flowers, water itself is not enough. It is equally important to provide the plant with water from the air. As befits a tropical flower, orchids like moisture and wet air. For this reason, the winter period (heated radiators) and summer (drought and lack of rainfall) may be burdensome for them. In the care of orchids, they are often recommended to sprinkle them regularly. Once a week, put the pot with the orchid in the sink and spray it abundantly with water. It is very important not to use water directly from the tap. The precipitating stone and other deposits will not be beneficial for the plant. It is also worth knowing that the spray will not always be good. When the plant was tied up, be careful not to soak them. In this case, to moisturize the air and the flower, you can put a bowl of water next to the pot. It will work like a homemade humidifier. The water will evaporate and moisturize the air around the orchid. In this way you will not destroy the tied inflorescences and you will not make them fall.
