The pact aimed to facilitate Russian product exports to international markets in order to reduce world prices
It blamed it on Saturday (12), western sanctions for the failure of the agreement to facilitate its food exports and fertilizers, signed with the beginning of its offensive in. The day before, the United Nations indicated that this pact, signed in July 2022 and valid for three years, would expire on July 22. “It will not be renewed” due to disagreements, a source said close to negotiations.
The agreement aimed to facilitate Russian exports of agricultural products and fertilizers to international markets in order to reduce world prices. Russia’s Foreign Ministry declared on Saturday that its extension had not been “foreseen” when it was signed. “Given the destructive line adopted by the western capitals, in particular those of the European Union, which consists of multiplying unilateral illegal sanctions against Russia, none of the objectives (of the agreement) has been fulfilled,” the ministry added.
Since the beginning of the Russian offensive in Ukraine in February 2022, the economic sanctions imposed on Moscow has not affected fertilizers or grains, for fear of a price increase, as the country is a major exporter of these products. However, the fear of accidentally crossing the red line paralyzed the carriers and raised the insurance installments.
After intense discussions, Russia and UN established a structure for insurance and financial transactions compatible with the three existing sanctions systems (, the United Kingdom and the European Union).
Although Moscow repeatedly complained that the pact remained largely on role, Russia’s Foreign Ministry guaranteed on Saturday that cooperation in these questions “could continue” after its expiration “in the interest of global food security.”
