Not even the biggest fans of Iga Swiatek could imagine that the Polish would be so easy to win her first Grand Slam title in the grass. In 57 minutes, she surpassed on Saturday (12) the American Amanda AniSimova with a double 6/0 to win Wimbledon and reach her sixth title of Grand Slam.
This is the first time that a female Grand Slam final has ended with such an elastic score since 1988, when German Steffi Graf has hit Belarusa Natasha Zvereva in Roland Garros’ decision also with two tires. Swiatk is unbeaten in all six Slam decisions he played – they were four in Roland Garros and one on the US Open.
Its best performance at the All England Club had so far been the quarterfinals in 2023 when it fell to Ukrainian Elina Svitolina. The 24 -year -old tennis player will now go from 4th to 3rd position in the Ranking of WTA (Association of Professional Tenists).
AniSimova, who began Wimbledon as No. 12, should rise to 7th position after the good result in London, with the right to eliminate the best in the world, Aryna Sabalenka, in the semifinal. The American has the best season of her career two years after a career break to take care of her mental health – in addition to the unpublished final in Grand Slam, won the WTA 1000 in Doha in early 2025.
This Saturday, however, it took time to enter the match. With unsafe looting and many unqualified errors, it did not confirm any of the services on the first set, which ended at a quick 25 minutes, 6-0 to the Polish.
Swiatek did not have to play a spectacular game to win the second partial and the championship. He bet on safe plays and accumulated points in the face of Annisimova’s failures, which was supported by the fans and even managed to improve on the set, but not enough to prevent the double 6/0.
To reach the decision, the Polish won the Swiss Belinda Bencic, 35 of the ranking, in the semifinal, after defeating Russian Liudmila Samsonova, No. 19, in the Wednesdays, and the Danish Clara Tauson, No. 22, in the eighth. Throughout the competition, it lost only one set.
Before surpassing Sabalenka, AniSimova passed the Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 50 of the ranking, in the Wednesdays and Czech Linda Nosková, 27, in the round of 16.
