Unfortunately, cracking of tomatoes is a common problem that many growers are facing. How to take care of the tomatoes to reap only a beautiful stroke and solid fruits?
Do your beautiful tomatoes burst?
Do you feel that you haven’t met so much with the crackling of tomatoes and rotting the fruits and have you been facing it more and more in recent years?
Cracked and differently scarred tomatoes are not strictly nice to look at and significantly faster, but in fact the fruits are nothing. This is due to the fact that the plant suddenly got a large amount of fluids and the fetus increased rapidly. Although the skin is elastic as leather, this sharp increase in size has not been.
This can be avoided, though not 100 %. In addition, there are other reasons why the skin is prone to rupture you should know about.
In the greenhouse you have a jungle green, but are tomatoes small? Perhaps the tomato is over -fertilized with nitrogen fertilizers, maybe it has unnecessary dicks that unnecessarily debilitate the plant. You can find out how to remove them in the following post.
Regular watering is the foundation
So what is that some tomatoes suffer very much about cracking and others not? How come the neighbor does not have cracked tomatoes and you do?
If you want to avoid cracking tomatoes, you have to try to adequately balance the amount of watering. If the tomatoes are regularly watered several times a week or in the case of a large heat every other day, your tomatoes will probably remain nice and smooth with the skin undamaged. This is because the plant receives watering regularly, so it grows constantly and gradually without major growth jumps.

The cracking occurs if you forget, and then for some reason you pour more watering than usual. Typically, this happens at the time of the holidays.
Another reason why tomatoes can crack is the ripening of fruits exposed to a long direct sunlight during extreme heat. This thinns the skin, which is then more susceptible to cracking. In addition, the skin dries and the fetus heats up inadequately, which still records the cracking.
Equally important is because of them the skin is flexible and solid. If the plants are sufficiently nourished, the fruits are often stronger and more resistant to cracking. However, it should be noted that the fruits differ slightly and some types of tomatoes have more juicy fruits, while others have a solid and above all very fleshy and foaming center of the fetus.
How to crack tomato fruits?
Now we know what is behind the crackle of the fruits. But what to do with it? Remember that:
- The dressing should be regular, abundant and even. Gardeners should therefore adequately balance the watering according to the weather.
- Mulching contributes to improving moisture retention and better watering.
- Irrigation with droplet irrigation is not strictly ideal, but it is a good way to ensure the plant of moisture at regular intervals and in your absence.
- You can slightly shield the tomatoes from the southern side using white geotextiles against excessive sunlight.
- Tomatoes that will be fed up in flower and maturation periods have better conditions not to crack.
- Harvest the fruits until they are overripe. Soft and very watery fruits are more susceptible not only to cracking but also rotting.
- If you fight every year with the cracking of tomatoes, try to grow variants with stronger peel in the future. These include “Prudens Purple”, “Mountain Magic”, “Juliet”, Sun Gold, Black Cherry or Celebrity. These are mainly cherry and cocktail tomatoes, but also salad and larger tomatoes.
