US President Donald Trump visited the area affected by devastating floods in Texas on Friday. During a speech in the most affected district, Kerr expressed his condolences to the survivors and appreciated the work of rescuers and volunteers. TASR reports this based on AP and DPA reports.
“First lady (Melania Trump) and we are here in Texas to express the love, support and suffering of our whole country after this really terrible and fatal flood,” stated the president. The floods have claimed more than 100 victims from July 4.
Trump stressed that the search for the missing continues. “The people involved in it are incredible,” he said, emphasizing the courage of the rescue teams. “I want to thank all these great rescuers who have set out to a very serious danger.” The White House chief and his wife also met the families of the victims and the missing. “We just visited incredible families. They are crushed,” he added.
According to American media and local authorities, floods in the central part of Texas claimed at least 120 victims. In the district Kerr Sheriff Larry Leith, on Thursday, he confirmed 95 dead, including 36 children. More than 160 people are still missing.
