Child was strolling with parents and siblings by tourist spot of Serra Geral National Park, in Cambará do Sul, when he fell off his cliff; Necropsy report pointed polytrauma as a cause of death
One 11 years fell into one of the abyss of the Fortaleza Canyon, in Serra Geral National Park, in Cambará do Sul (RS), this Thursday (10). The fall occurred around 1 pm, according to the family. The firefighters were fired, and with the use of drone and rappel ropes located the girl’s body at 23h. The necropsy report pointed polytrauma as a cause of death. Already the report of the site of the accident should be ready in about a month.
How was the accident in Rio Grande do Sul?
Bianca Bernardom Zanella, 11, was with her parents and two brothers, 5 and 9, walking through Serra Geral National Park in Cambará do Sul-RS. The family is from Curitiba. At about 1:30 pm, they were at the Fortaleza Canyon Lookout and would decide to get down to the base, where a cafeteria operates. The mother went ahead, taking her children aged 5 and 9, and her father was responsible for Bianca. According to Rio Grande do Sul police, the girl ran to the way, and her father ran to try to hold her, but couldn’t. She fell.

The rescue group arrived to Bianca around 11 pm, about nine and a half hours after the accident. Bianca was already dead. How did rescuers come to the girl? They went from rappel, using strings to get down the mountain slope to the point where Bianca was. According to the experts, this was the best way to provide relief, given the precarious conditions of visibility and access to the site
Will anyone be held responsible?
The Rio Grande do Sul Civil Police are investigating the case. According to delegate Fernanda Aranha, responsible for the investigation, an expert will indicate if the child was alive when it was located by the drone in the afternoon. Technical issues, such as the safety rules of the park and the signaling along the way will also be evaluated.

ICMBio, a federal agency that manages the park, regretted the accident and reported in a statement that it is assisting the family of the child who died. According to the agency, it was the first registered case of death of an authorized visitor in this park since its inception, in May 1992. Since 2000, when the monitoring began, the park has received more than 1.3 million visitors.
