In the Athens district of Kolonaki, an SUV without a driver hit the restaurant. Eleven guests were injured, some of them more seriously, underwent medical treatment.

The SUV without a driver on Sunday crashed into a popular restaurant in the Athens district of Kolonaki and injured at least 11 people, the Greek authorities announced. According to the DPA report, TASR reports this.

The accident occurred shortly after midnight. Bars and restaurants were crowded at that time and the guests sat in the outside of businesses. The Greek news website Ertnews has specified that all injured persons have undergone medical treatment. One of them suffered more serious injuries, but is not in danger of life.

Eyewitnesses for the media said it was initially a panic among people because they did not know whether it was an accident or an attack. The vehicle on the steep street took up considerable speed, as a result of which the guests of the restaurant did not have enough time to escape. According to the preliminary findings of the police, the car first rolled a tree and subsequently crashed into the outdoor premises of the company where the guests were located. The owner of the SUV in the car seems to have not drawn the hand brake, writes DPA. The investigation of the exact cause of the accident continues.
