The European Union prefers a solution with the United States on tariff measures, said the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen on Sunday (13).
The day before, von der Leyen said the block would not hesitate to adopt contracted 30% charges imposed by US President Donald Trump. However, the leader added that this possibility is suspended until August 1, a period set by Trump for the rates to come into force if there is no agreement.
“The instrument (anticking) was created for extraordinary situations, we have not yet arrived there,” he added, referring to a tool that allows the EU to go beyond traditional goods on goods and impose restrictions also on the trade in services.
