The tariff of Brazilian products announced by the government of USA motivated the presentation in Chamber of Deputies of requests on the case. Government congressmen argue that the house repudiates the position of the Americans, while the opposition aims to call ministers to hear clarification from the executive’s performance.
PT leader, Deputy Lindbergh Farias (RJ), and Mr Pompeo de Mattos (PDT-RS) submitted requests for repudiation to the US government.
The requests were also motivated by the approval this week of a – request that was sponsored by the opposition and voted before the announcement of the new tariffs.
“The official position of the house so far, what is? The Motion of Praise to Trump. There will be something to be voted in the plenary. I have no doubt that. We will force. And this is different from the official position of the mayor and the president of the Senate,” Lindbergh said in a press conference.
Leaders heard by CNNhowever, they evaluate that a request for repudiation should not be based on the plenary by the president of the house, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), who has adopted warm tone over the case of tariff.
In the Commission of Industry, Commerce and Services, three PT deputies, Ivoneide Caetano (BA), Jack Rocha (ES) and Alexandre Lindenmeyer (RS), also submitted requests for repudiation against Trump.
On the other hand, the opposition seeks to reverse the narrative that it supported a vote of tariff -related praise.
“The vote of praise was for the first demonstration of President Donald Trump of Solidarity to Bolsonaro. Just see the vote of praise. We do not praise, as they want to impute, for taxes,” said PL leader, Sostenes Cavalcante (RJ).
Opposition deputies also seek to blame the government for increasing US -announced tariffs. The position of the group is that the executive has failed in the articulation and promotes an “ideological diplomacy”.
Ally of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Deputy Evair de Melo (PP-ES) filed three requests for ministers to talk about the tariff: one Mira Fernando Haddad, from the farm, and two others the chancellor Mauro Vieira.
The requirements still need to end the plenary – one of them, the second that Mira Vieira, was presented to the Foreign Relations Commission.
Evair’s intention is to hear from Haddad the economic impacts of surcharge. From the chancellor, the deputy wants clarification on “the omission and diplomatic irresponsibility of the Lula government that culminated in the imposition of tariffs.”
Plenary Debate
Another request made by Lindbergh Farias is about the realization of a general commission to talk about the tariff, that is, a broad debate in the plenary,
“We got the signatures, we are delivering to the president [Hugo Motta] so that he guide. We got the signing of MDB, Solidarity, Somos, PSB, PDT, PT and PCdoB, so that the house will make a general commission, calling Itamaraty and business sectors to discuss the topic and consequences, ”he said.
Lindbergh bets on dialogue with Motta to mark the debate next week. Time, however, is short, as Congress will have parliamentary recess from Friday (18) until July 31.
We next days, with a tight calendar, the deputies will make a concentrated effort to vote priority proposals for the government and the benches. In addition, the house already has two other sessions with general commissions scheduled for the morning of Wednesday (16).
