With the new rule, the total amount to obtain permanence in the country may reach US $ 435 (about R $ 2,419); has not yet been informed when the charge will start to be valid
Freepik Fare will be charged only after visa approval
The government of approved a new rate of $ 250 for foreigners who request non -immigrant, such as tourism, study and business. The collection was included in the Fiscal Megapote sanctioned by President Donald Trump in early July, named after One Big Beautiful Bill. Called Visa Integrity Fee (Visa Integrity Fee), the rate will be charged only after visa approval – unlike the current fee of $ 185 ($ 1,028), which is paid in the request and schedule stage. With the new rule, the total amount to obtain a visa could reach $ 435 (about $ 2,419).
The new rate will affect several categories of non -immigrants, including tourists (B), students (F), exchange students (J), temporary workers (H), athletes and artists (P), among others. In addition, the bill also provides for the collection of form I-95, which registers the entry into the country, in the amount of US $ 24 (R $ 133). With this, the total cost to travel to the US can reach $ 459 ($ 2,552).
The fee may be adjusted annually based on inflation and may also be changed by decision of National Security Secretary Kristi Noem. The US government did not say when the charge will start to be valid, but the new fiscal year in the US begins in October.
Reimbursement in specific cases
The legislation provides for the possibility of reimbursement of the Visa Integrity Fee for foreigners who fully comply with the rules of visa during the validity of the document. Among the requirements are:
Not accepting unauthorized employment in the US;
Have left the country within a maximum of five days after the end of the visa validity;
Or have obtained the status of non -immigrant or legal permanent residence.
The reimbursement, however, can only be requested after the visa expires, which, for Brazilians, is usually valid for 10 years. The law does not detail how this refund will be done.
