Surfini tends to grow very intensively, especially in the first weeks after planting. If they are left without forming, often They grow in a chaotic way – they release long, thin shoots, which over time begin to hang and bald from the inside. Flowering then focuses only on the ends of the shoots, and the plant ceases to look attractive.
Pruning treatment:
- It stimulates the plant’s spreading – after cutting one momentum, several new ones grow from its base. This leads to the density of the entire structure,
- – each new rush is a potential place for the development of subsequent flower buds,
- It prevents the growth and sagging of the plant – regular shortening of shoots maintains a compact form and supports a healthy, proportional growth,
- It extends the flowering period – the plant after cutting invests energy not in seed production, but in further development and creation of new flowers.
Contrary to appearances, there is no one specific date when this procedure should be performed. It is important to do it regularly – even every 2-3 weeks – And not allow a situation in which the plant begins to clearly lose its form.
In practice, it looks like this:
- It is worth doing about 3-4 weeks after planting plants in boxes or pots, when they start to grow intensively.
- The next pruning can be planned as needed – as soon as we notice that the shoots are getting too long and the flowers are focused only at their ends.
- The last forming cut should be carried out in mid -August, so that the plant still has time to regenerate before the end of the season.
Important: It is better to cut more often, and less intensively than rarely and very radically. Thanks to this surfin, they will not lose all buds at the same time, and we will avoid the period in which the plant will look not very decorative.
Pruning treatment does not require specialized tools – enough Garden scissors or hand pruning shears. It should be noted that the tool is clean and disinfected, which will reduce the risk of transmitting diseases.
Rules :
- We shorten shoots 1/3 or even 1/2 length, depending on their condition and the development of the plant,
- We do the cut just above the leaf or branchavoiding leaving empty “stumps”,
- it is good do not cut all the shoots at onceespecially if the plant is large – thanks to this we will always keep some flowers on the plant.
The best moment of the day to perform the procedure is In the morning or late afternoonwhen the sun is not so intense.
After each cut, it is worth cleaning the plant of faded flowers and withered leaves. It also improves its overall appearance and condition.
After cutting, surfines need support to regenerate and resume intensive growth as soon as possible. Therefore, you need to take care of:
- – The soil should be moist, but not soaked. Surfini do not tolerate excess water.
- The use of fertilizer – it’s best to use multi -component fertilizer for flowering plants, with a predominance of phosphorus and potassium, which supports the development of buds. The fertilizer should be used regularly, e.g. once a week.
- Permanent removal of faded flowers – this is a simple procedure that allows the plant to focus forces on new flowers, not on the production of seeds.
Properly and systematically trimmed with surfins, they will repay with a spectacular effect – cascade of flowers, which impresses with the form and intensity of colors. The plant will keep a compact, healthy cut until the end of the season, it will not thin on or lose decorative values in the warmest months of summer.
