Celebrated on July 13, the World Rock Day celebrates one of the most heard genres over the decades, and also one of those that cover More diverse variants of the famous rock ‘n’ roll within itself.
The date was chosen in Tribute to Live Aidwhich took place on July 13, 1985 and brought together names like Queen, Elton John, David Bowie, U2 and several that have stood out over the years.
And besides, rock was also part of the history of cinema, and took several of its main names to the big screen. From large productions to independent long, several titles have stood out for and bring their history to new generations.

“Control” (2007)
Accompanying the last years of the life of Ian Curtis, lead singer of the legendary band Joy Division, the film shows the short and intense trajectory of the star who became famous for his lyricist talent and his epic performances in front of the band.

“The Doors – O Filme” (1991)
Set in the 1960s, the film follows the rise of Jim Morrison (Val Kilmer), singer of The Doors. Amid success and extreme drug addiction, the star ends up relating to the two women of his life: Pamela Courson (Meg Ryan) and journalist Patricia Kennealy (Kathleen Quinlan).

“Elvis” (2022)
Accompanying several decades of the life of one of Rock’s biggest noms, the feature shows his rise to fame, as well as his troubled relationship with his controlling manager, the famous “colonel” Tom Parker (Tom Hanks). In addition, the film shows the relationship of Elvis (Austin Butler) and his greatest source of inspiration, Priscilla (Olivia Dejonge).

“Rocketman” (2019)
From a shy young man to one of the biggest names in music, “Rocketman” has been with Elton John (Taron Egerton) from his complicated childhood to his professional relationships with his friend Bernie Taupin (Jamie Bell), and his troubled love with businessman John Reid (Richard Madden). All this, of course, with the best songs of the musician.

“The Liverpool Boy” (2009)
Accompanying the adolescence of John Lennon (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), the film shows the difficult times of the young man’s life, both to adapt to school and at home, where he lives with his uncles George and Mimi. In addition, the feature also shows the beginning of his friendship with Paul McCartney (Thomas Brodie-Sangster).

In the mid-1960s, Brian Wilson, Beach Boys singer, decides to create the famous album “Pet Sounds”, his masterpiece. Twenty years later, his Melinda girlfriend tries to help the singer recover the reins of his mental health.

“The Runaways – Garotas do Rock” (2010)
The teenagers Cherie (Dakota Fanning) and Joan (Kristen Stewart), alongside their friends, realize the dream of forming a girl’s rock band called The Runaways. However, with growing fame, conflicts begin to emerge, endangering their union.

“RITAS” (2025)
Presenting the trajectory of one of the biggest names in national rock, “Ritas” is a tribute to singer Rita Lee, who died in 2023. With unpublished images and various materials from the artist’s personal archive, the documentary presents details of her life that were never seen before.
